Fly a Rocket! is a hands-on space project offered in the framework of the ESA Academy programme for university students. It is being offered in collaboration with the European Space Agency, Andøya Space Education and the Norwegian Space Agency.
The course is aimed at younger university students with an interest in space—not just those studying aerospace engineering or space science. Though some understanding of higer-level mathematics is required, the course is designed to showcase some of the breadth of expertise wanted and needed in the space sector, and anyone interested are encouraged to apply.
Fly a Rocket! complements ESA’s existing education programmes by targeting students who may be too old to enter the secondary school CanSat competitions and yet too young to apply for higher level student projects such as the Rocket & Balloon Experiments for University Students (REXUS/BEXUS).
Supported by staff from Andoya Space and ESA, the students will be involved at all stages of the launch campaign—from assembling and testing the rocket payload, calibrating the communications equipment, running some of the operations during countdown and liftoff, to analyzing the data afterwards in order to answer self-selected scientific questions.
Students in this programme have been selected by ESA, and it is only students that have been asked to register that should.
